Week 22 – 3 March 2023
My name is Amanda Fraser and it is a pleasure to be introducing the Weekly Update this week as the Interim Headteacher of York High School. As you are aware, Mr Sims has taken time to have the historic injury on his ankle fixed. I have been asked to temporarily fill his seat until his return.Â
I have over twenty years of experience in education and have been a school leader in schools across the North West of England and as far away as the Falkland Islands.Â
I have been bowled over by the warm welcome that I have received from the York High School family and am committed to maintaining the same high standards for your children set by Mr Sims.Â
I hope that you all have a great weekend and I look forward to meeting some of you in the coming weeks and months.
News from this week:
Year 10 Health and Social Care
Year 10 H&SC have started the first PSA task and I am incredibly proud of the attitude to learning every one of them has shown. They are showing huge levels of determination, to work through quite complex tasks, applying their subject knowledge and demonstrating amazing organisational skills. Well done Year 10 H&SC and keep going.Â
Community Cupboard
It’s that time of year when children seem to have a growth spurt! If you need any items of school uniform, please remember the community cupboard has a wide range of uniform items, including PE kit. These are available for collection free of charge. All items are in good condition and have been washed ready to go!Â
Please contact Karen Tattersfield on main reception if you need anything or you can email Karen at k.Tattersfield@yorkhigh.southbank.academy
Thank you all for your generous donations of outgrown uniform.
Pastoral
Miss Burns is busy preparing for the Spring Term ATL rewards trip! The pupils with the best attitude to learning grade in each year group will be taken on the rewards trip on the last Thursday of the term. More information to follow.
Thank you to parents and carers who report any absences for their child to school. If your child will be absent, please inform school by 8.30am by calling the absence line (main number, followed by option 1).
Next Week:
Year 11 Practice Exams
On Monday our Year 11 pupils will be sitting their final set of practice exams. With only 9 school weeks left until their first GCSE exam, these practice exams are all about making sure pupils know what preparation they still need to do before the real thing in May and June. Please encourage your child to give these practice exams their all, to complete plenty of revision and make sure they are in school for every exam next week.
Have a great weekend!
