Post-16 attended: I attended Askham Bryan College, where I completed a level 3 Animal Management Zoo Pathway course. I then completed a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship.

University or college? N/A

Favourite subject at school: Child Development

What I thought I wanted to do: I went to college to become a zoo keeper as I love animals.

What I ended up doing: I ended up completing a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship and now have a full time position working with children with special needs.

How I got here: After gaining my qualifications from my course at college to become a zoo keeper, I decided that it wasn’t the career that I wanted. Instead I decided that I wanted to help teach children so I completed a level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship over 2 years. This was a really good option as I gained lots of hands on experience whilst learning with the benefit of also being paid. After gaining my qualification I was offered a full time Teaching Assistant position, I am able to use all the practical experience and knowledge which has made me more confident in my role and a better Teaching Assistant.

Most useful skill or character trait for my job: In my job role it is important to always be positive and encourage the children to achieve their best.

Top tip! Never give up on getting the career you want. Make sure you explore all your options, there is something right for everyone!
