Week 14 – 15 December 2023
Key Dates
- Year 11 Parents Evening – Wednesday 20th December – 4:30~7:30pm
- Last day of Term for pupils – Wednesday 20th December – 3:10pm
Whilst lessons this week remain very focused on learning, two key events have meant it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!
Festive Showcase
Mrs Lancaster, Mrs Jackson and Miss Linsey produced a spectacular Festive Showcase last night which was a real treat.
The sell-out event involved spoken pieces, songs, a dance performance and a staff pantomime!
Mrs Lawson played Cinderella beautifully, with Mr Winston being her cruel Step-mother
Mrs Fletcher and Mrs O’Brien the sisters and a star performance from Mr Hardy as the Fairy Godfather. Not forgetting Mr Drury as Prince Charming!
Mrs Muress also put on a super raffle too.
Students and staff have worked tirelessly this term to prepare for the showcase and we were especially excited about the preview of the school’s performance of We Will Rock You. We are in for a real show of talent in April when the full show will be performed.
Well done to all of the students who took part – you made us feel very festive and we enjoyed every moment.
The work that goes into performances such as this is never taken for granted. Rehearsals, technical support, outfits, refreshments and the list goes on. None of it would be possible without the fantastic teamwork that we have at YHS. Thank you to all who played their part to ensure that our students could showcase their exceptional talents.
Christmas Lunch
A big thank you to our catering team Dulce who served record numbers of Christmas lunch this week! Pupils enjoyed a full Christmas roast dinner with all the trimmings and a treacle sponge for pudding.
End of Term
With just three days to go until the end of term, there is still a lot to look forward to next week including rewards assemblies, attendance draws and prizes, parents’ evening for Year 11 and of course lessons!
Please note that Wednesday 20th is a full day in school.
And finally…
A Message from Mrs Harrison
It has been my privilege and my pleasure to have worked at York High School and previously Lowfield School for the past 28 years but now it’s time for me to spend more time with my family and hopefully see a bit of the world – before I get too old!
I have met many fantastic students, lovely families and amazing staff over the years and feel incredibly lucky to have been able to work in the Acomb Community; it will always hold a special place for me.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
With thanks and best wishes,
Dani Harrison (Hustwick, Yates)
Have a great weekend.
