Aspire Week
Careers Fair
We had over 30 businesses in, representing areas of defence, security, science, dance, health, emergency services, entertainment, hospitality and accountancy.
The students really enjoyed discovering more about a variety of sectors, and, of course, collecting some new items of stationery!
A huge thank you to all who gave up their time to meet with our young people.
York St John University
On Wednesday we took 51 Y11 students for a look around York St John university.
They had the opportunity to learn more about the variety of courses, societies, accommodations options and a campus tour.
It was a great (but very chilly) day, and the students represented us well.
Sam Boatwright
Today, all of Year 10 and Year 11 heard from Sam Boatwright, an ex-marine, world record holder, epic challenger and maths teacher.
Sam’s talk focussed on perseverance, motivation and aiming high.
Many thanks for Sam who delivered 2 fantastic sessions.
Year 8 Performing Arts Aspirations Day
On Tuesday all our year 8 students participated in a personal development day focused on skills and careers in the arts.
They took part in 5 different sessions:
- Beatboxing with Conrad Murray
- Rap and lyric writing with Paul Cree and Gambit Ace
- Devising theatre with Next Door But 1 Theatre company on the subject of antisocial behaviour
- A careers session with videos from industry professionals
- and STOMP (junk percussion) with Billy Hickling.
In some of the feedback we have received, students have described the day as ‘amazing’, ‘inspiring’ and ‘awesome’ with the standout favourite sessions being STOMP and Beatboxing.
One of the visiting professionals has been in touch to say: ‘I was delighted with the enthusiastic response and exceptional levels of involvement from all the kids and teachers today. Thank you for the warm welcome’.
Well done to all students who were involved, we hope you enjoyed the day.

ATL Trip
Great trip to Meadowhall last week to take those pupils rewarded for their fantastic ATL score.
Plenty of shopping and sweets eaten and we even got to watch the new Wonka film!
