The Final Countdown

Welcome to the Penultimate Weekly Update
It has been a great week if not a wet week at YHS.
Year 10 students have been up at Middleton in Teesdale this week studying rivers, I hope they stayed dry.  We are welcoming many year 5’s to YHS today for the French cafe day.
So positive about year 10 and their future success, it was clear to see that they really cared about their exam results and predictions for the future.
Congratulations to all who performed at the Barbican in the South Bank Arts festival,  especially our Rock Band who were the stars of the show.
Looking forward to awards evening next week to celebrate the students at YHS who are truly exceptional.
Finally next Thursday we are taking most of our students to Flamingo Land or bowling.  For those staying in school it is non uniform where there will be a series of activities including film club, football, rounders, samba drumming, Terrible or terrific Tudors plus a range of other activities.

Have a great weekend.

Rod Sims

ArtsFest 2024

On Tuesday, all the schools in the SBMAT came together for an incredible day of music making at the Barbican.

Our Art students displayed their work in the foyer for all the audience members to look at as they came into the building.

Our musicians were involved in rehearsals, dance workshops and the all important banner making throughout the day, which culminated in a fantastic performance in the evening.

All the schools (Scarcroft, Knavesmire, Carr, Woodthorpe, Millthorpe and York High) bookended the concert with joint renditions of ‘Come Alive’ and ‘Sing’, both of which involved York High soloists: Hayla, Shanley and Tia Mai.

Congratulations to our We Will Rock You cast, and also our Yr10 band who managed to have most of the primary school children out of their seats, dancing and singing along to Seven Nation Army and Highway to Hell.

Geography in the Wild

13 geographers have spent 3 days in Middleton upon Teesdale.

They’ve enjoyed gorge walking, archery, crate stacking, toasting marshmallows as well as some excellent geography of rivers and waterfalls.

Their behaviour and attitude have been exemplary and all the leaders have commented on their amazing behaviour and enthusiasm, not even the weather could dampen their spirits!
