It’s been another fantastic week at York High School. It was a genuine pleasure to see such a large attendance at our first ‘Slice of Advice Evening’ for our Year 11 cohort. The evening was a real success with students and parents/carers taking away key advice on how to be successful in the forthcoming academic and GCSE examinations.
Have a great weekend.

Exam Stress Sessions for Year 11
It was absolutely fantastic to have so many parents and carers join us for the Year 11 Expectations Evening on Wednesday. It was great to have chance to chat with you about how to support your child throughout Year 11, and to see pupils and parents getting excellent revision advice from the subject stands. The presentation has been emailed to all Year 11 parents today and we look forward to continuing to work with you to support our pupils right up until their final exam.
Our Breakfast Club runs each morning from 8am (last entry 8:20am), offering hot sandwiches, waffles, pastries and bagels. Breakfast is FREE of charge to all of our students. No need to book, everyone is welcome.
All Year 11 students have been issued with a link to register their interest in the role of Prefect at York High School. This year we want to give our Year 11 pupils leadership opportunities and this starts with our roles of Prefects and then Head Boy and Girl.
Please ask your child to check their school email for the link to apply for the role.
Our Wellbeing in Mind team are offering exam stress workshops, which will run on:
If your child wishes to participate, please encourage them to complete the google form sent to their email. Pupils are required to attend all three sessions.
Our Wellbeing in Mind team are also looking to offer an information service on the topics of anxiety and the teenage brain. This link will take you to a form to complete if you would like to sign up to any of the sessions.
The sessions will take place at York High School and once we have confirmed numbers we will be in touch with further details.
We are providing various after-school activities for pupils at nearby primary schools this year, including a Photoshop Club for children in Year 6.
Photoshop is the leading software package for creating personalised greetings cards, eye-catching posters, and much more. No prior knowledge is required; children will initially be taught the basic skills and will be able to progress at their own pace.
There is no cost to attend and colour printouts are provided free of charge.
For more information, and to register a place for your child at Photoshop Club, please complete this short form.
If you have any problems accessing the link, or if you have any questions, please email reception@yorkhigh.elt.org.uk with the subject ‘Year 6 Photoshop Club’.
Next week’s focus: Routines and Habits – Strong Finish to the Lesson
Our #YHSWay focus for this week is 'Routines and Habits – Litter' 🌟 🚯
Last week, 30 students took part in spray paint sessions with Art of Protest as part of an outreach initiative led by York City Council to inform a large mural that will be painted on the side of ‘Snips’ on Front Street in Acomb.
Students created their own piece of spray art, heard a presentation about types of mural art work and answered questionnaires about what they would like to see on the murals and benches, which are also due to receive a makeover.
We hope they enjoyed this unique opportunity to have a say on what happens in their own, wider community.
Each Wednesday during form time, our Year 11s now have a mental health focus giving them an opportunity to consider self-esteem, strategies to support mental health, and how we can still experience joy in the exam season.
The first session was a definite hit! #mentalhealth
