New Beginnings

I hope this message finds you and your family well. As the new academic year begins, and the first week comes to an end, I am delighted to introduce myself as the Principal of York High School. It is both an honour and a privilege to serve this wonderful community. At the very beginning of my career, I trained at York High School as part of my teacher training, so this feels very special coming back to the school as Principal. I fully understand the amazing journey that the school has been on and I look forward to leading the school onto our next exciting and successful chapter.

After spending time this week with all students and staff I feel that it is now really important to write to you as the parent body. I believe that education is a partnership between the school, parents, and the community, and I look forward to working closely with you to support your child’s learning and development. Your involvement and feedback are invaluable, and I encourage you to engage with us through regular communication, school events, and parent-teacher meetings.

York High School is fully committed to providing a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment where every child can thrive both academically and personally. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff are passionate about nurturing the unique talents and abilities of each student, ensuring that they not only excel in their education but also grow as confident, responsible, and compassionate individuals.

As we embark on this new school year, we have many exciting plans and initiatives in place to enhance the educational experience for all our students. From enriching extracurricular activities to innovative teaching approaches, our goal is to inspire a love of learning that will last a lifetime.

As York High School’s Principal I will ensure that I promote our school values of Resilience, Aspiration and Success at all times in every aspect of school life. York High School is at the very heart of its community and I am immensely proud to be your new Principal. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time with questions, concerns, or suggestions. My door is always open, and I am here to support you and your child in every way possible.

Thank you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your child. Together, we can ensure that York High School continues to be a place where every student can achieve their full potential.

Warm regards,

Gavin Kumar

Positive Changes

What a fantastic start from all pupils in adjusting to the changes to entry and exit of the school site with our new fencing and blue line.It has been such a positive environment and everyone has had a smile on their faces. Everyone has looked immaculate in their uniforms and new ties and are upholding our YHS Way values.

On Monday your child will be given your parent login information to access your child’s Class Charts profile.

Class Charts is an online system which teachers use to track achievement and behaviour throughout the school day. We believe in working closely with parents and guardians. One of the key benefits of using Class Charts is that we are able to securely share your child(s) achievements with you and to keep you up to date in real-time about their achievements and behaviour.

Once you have been issued with a code, you will need to create an account and enter the code here:

https://www.classcharts.com/parent/login

Links to the Android and iOS parent apps are also available from this page.

If you have more than one child in the school, you can enter additional codes directly into your created account.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions or queries.

Avery Visit

Mr Kumar, Miss Burns and three Year 11 students, Oscar, Joan and Patrin, were delighted to welcome staff and residents from Avery to York High School.

The residents kindly donated a box of food for the school’s community cupboard.  We talked about how the cost of living crisis continues to affect many families, especially as we head into the winter months.  Students also enjoyed hearing about our visitors’ careers and hobbies which included working in the NHS, the military and being the Ladies’ Golf Captain!

We are very grateful for the generous donation and are looking forward to future projects that we can work on together.

If you need any items from the community cupboard, please contact Karen on reception or email k.tattersfield@yorkhigh.southbank.academy.  All requests are confidential and no referral is needed.
