We’ve had a fantastic start to a new term at York High School. Students have returned from the Christmas holidays full of motivation and ready for the next chapter of the academic year.
During the week our students have reflected on their achievements in 2024 and considered their own targets for what is going to make their 2025 another huge success.
I look forward to working with our school community this year and wish you all the best for 2025.
Have a great weekend!

Whole school Careers Fair
Friday 14 February 2025
School closes for half-term break
On 14 January, the whole of Year 8 will be participating in a ‘Careers in the Arts’ Inspiration Day.
A researcher from the University of Leeds would like to observe the day and how the school works with external practitioners. As part of the research, we need to seek consent from parents to say that they agree for their child to be observed as part of the research. No photos will be taken, it is simply observational. All observations will also be anonymised.
I’d be grateful if you could read the attached information and sign this Google Form. Thank you.

Starting on Monday, our Year 11 students will have the chance to win fantastic prizes simply by being at school!
Students will receive an entry into our Grand Prize Draw for every full day that they are in school. Completion of a full week at school gives each student a further 20 entries!
Each entry counts towards the draw in May, in which one lucky student will receive either a PlayStation 5 or £250.
Year 11s, don’t miss out – make sure you are in school every day to maximise your chances of winning!
Behind every multi academy trust sits a network of volunteers who make sure that it is well-managed and delivers the best possible education to all our children. As trustees, these volunteers provide support and challenge to the leadership team, in order to drive and support school improvement. Many trustees are not education professionals, but are drawn from parents and members of the local community. Every person brings different skills and life experiences, and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds.
We are now looking for committed and enthusiastic people to join Excel Learning Trust as trustees. If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you.
Full information and details of how to apply can be found here.
If you would like to get experience of the workplace, you could speak to a parent or carer and see if you could join them at work during one of your school holidays.
However, if this is not possible, or they don’t have a career which interests you, head over to the Speakers for Schools website where you can sign up for a variety of opportunities.
Family Matters York will be running their popular Time Out for Parents: The Teenage Years course again in March 2025.
(The course is free, although any donations towards the running of this course are a great help towards the work of this small charity.)
